Hyundai Ioniq 5 with its signature pixel light design

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is Hyundai's award-winning electric crossover, built on the dedicated E-GMP platform and refreshed for the 2025 model year with bigger batteries, more range, and a native Tesla-style NACS charge port.

For 2026 it carries over unchanged mechanically, but with headline news of a different kind: Hyundai has cut US prices by up to $9,800, bringing the range down to a $35,000 starting point.

The Ioniq 5 stands out with its retro pixel design, an 800-volt electrical architecture that charges faster than almost anything at its price, and a long 118.1-inch wheelbase that gives it a far roomier cabin than its compact footprint suggests. Here are the full specifications, key features, and price.

Key Highlights of Hyundai Ioniq 5

  1. Up to 318 Miles of EPA Range — Long Range rear-wheel-drive models are rated at 318 miles on a full charge, while the entry Standard Range version still manages 245 miles. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions return between 259 and 290 miles depending on trim.

  2. 800-Volt Ultra-Fast Charging — The E-GMP platform supports DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes on a 350-kW charger, adding well over 150 miles of range in the time it takes to buy a coffee.
  3. Native NACS Port — US models were the first non-Tesla EVs with a built-in North American Charging Standard port, opening up Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. A complimentary CCS adapter is included for other networks.
  4. Two Batteries, Three Power Levels — Choose a 63-kWh Standard Range pack with 168 hp, an 84-kWh Long Range pack with 225 hp, or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque.
  5. Big 2026 Price Cuts — Every trim is cheaper for 2026, by $7,600 to $9,800. The SEL rear-wheel drive saw the largest cut and now starts at $39,800 before destination.
  6. Vehicle-to-Load Power — The Ioniq 5 can power external devices from its battery, from laptops and e-bikes to camping gear and power tools, turning the car into a rolling power bank.

Design and Dimensions

The Ioniq 5 wears one of the most recognizable designs in the EV market, with sharp creases, a clamshell hood, and Parametric Pixel lights front and rear that give it a retro-futuristic look inspired by Hyundai's 1970s Pony coupe.

Flush door handles, active air flaps in the front bumper, and aerodynamically shaped wheels help it slip through the air despite the boxy silhouette.

At 183.3 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 63.0 inches tall, it is roughly the size of a Hyundai Tucson on the outside.

The trick is the 118.1-inch wheelbase, longer than that of the three-row Palisade, which pushes the wheels to the corners and frees up a flat-floored cabin with generous rear legroom.

Compact hatchback on the outside, midsize SUV on the inside — the Ioniq 5's long wheelbase is the smartest part of its design.

The rugged XRT trim stands apart with a small suspension lift, 7.0 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, unique bumpers with digital camouflage cladding, and front tow hooks.

It also adds Terrain modes for Snow, Sand, and Mud for drivers who venture beyond paved roads.

Powertrain, Battery and Range

Every Ioniq 5 is built on Hyundai's E-GMP electric platform with a choice of two battery packs.

The Standard Range model uses a 63-kWh battery and a single rear motor producing 168 hp, good for an EPA-estimated 245 miles of range.

Long Range models upgrade to an 84-kWh battery; in rear-wheel-drive form the motor makes 225 hp and the range climbs to an EPA-estimated 318 miles, the best figure in the lineup.

Adding a front motor for all-wheel drive raises output to 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque, cutting the 0-60 mph run to around 4.5 seconds in independent testing.

The trade-off is range: dual-motor SE and SEL models are rated at 290 miles, the Limited AWD at 269 miles, and the off-road XRT at 259 miles on its all-terrain tires.

In the real world, expect highway range to land below the EPA figure at sustained 75 mph cruising, and above it in gentle city driving where regenerative braking does much of the work.

The Ioniq 5 offers multiple levels of regeneration, including a one-pedal driving mode, so drivers can tune how aggressively the car slows when lifting off the accelerator.

Charging and the NACS Port

Charging speed remains the Ioniq 5's party trick. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, a Long Range model plugged into a 350-kW DC fast charger goes from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes, a figure most rivals costing far more still cannot match.

At home, the onboard charger handles overnight Level 2 charging, so a full battery by morning is never an issue.

US models come with a native NACS inlet, giving access to more than 36,000 NACS and CCS DC fast chargers across the country, including the Tesla Supercharger network, with no adapter needed at Tesla stations.

For CCS stations, Hyundai includes a complimentary adapter in the car. Charging on a 400-volt Supercharger is somewhat slower than on a native 800-volt CCS charger, so the fastest road-trip stops are still at high-power CCS sites from networks like Electrify America and IONNA.

Interior, Cargo and Technology

Inside, the flat floor and sliding center console create an open, lounge-like cabin. Twin 12.3-inch displays sit under a single panel for the instruments and infotainment, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range.

The refreshed model also restored physical buttons for key climate and seat functions, a welcome change for usability while driving.

Cargo space measures 27.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 59.3 cubic feet with them folded, plus a small front trunk for the charge cable.

The rear seats slide and recline, and on the Limited trim the front seats offer a full recline relaxation mode designed for resting during a charging stop.

Higher trims add a head-up display with augmented reality navigation, a Bose premium audio system, a surround-view monitor, and Hyundai's Digital Key, which lets a smartphone act as the key.

Vehicle-to-Load is the standout party piece: an adapter on the charge port, plus an outlet under the rear seat on some trims, can run appliances, tools, or an entire campsite from the traction battery.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance is standard, including forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, and smart cruise control.

Highway Driving Assist 2 adds hands-on lane centering and assisted lane changes on the highway, reducing fatigue on long drives.

The Ioniq 5 has earned top safety recognition, including an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, and it backs its electric powertrain with Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile battery and powertrain warranty, one of the strongest coverage packages in the segment.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 FAQ

Which Ioniq 5 trim has the longest range? Any Long Range rear-wheel-drive model — SE, SEL, or Limited — is EPA-rated at 318 miles.

The all-wheel-drive versions trade some range for traction and performance, returning 259 to 290 miles.

Can the Ioniq 5 use Tesla Superchargers? Yes. US models have a native NACS port, so they plug straight into Tesla Superchargers with no adapter. A free CCS adapter is included for non-Tesla fast chargers.

How fast does the Ioniq 5 charge? On a 350-kW DC fast charger, the 800-volt system charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. Home Level 2 charging refills the battery overnight.

Does the 2026 Ioniq 5 still get a federal tax credit? The $7,500 federal EV tax credit expired on September 30, 2025, which is precisely why Hyundai cut 2026 sticker prices by up to $9,800 — the discount now comes from Hyundai instead of the government.

Price and Availability

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is on sale now in the United States, built at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia.

The specifications above describe the refreshed model introduced for 2025 and carried into 2026, but the prices are the story this year: Hyundai cut MSRPs by $7,600 to $9,800 across the lineup after the federal tax credit ended. Prices below are MSRP before the $1,600 destination charge.

SE Standard Range RWD (245 miles)$35,000
SE RWD (318 miles)$37,500
SEL RWD (318 miles)$39,800
Limited RWD (318 miles)$45,075
SE AWD (290 miles)$41,000
SEL AWD (290 miles)$43,300
XRT AWD (259 miles)$46,275
Limited AWD (269 miles)$48,975

For most buyers, the sweet spot is the SE or SEL rear-wheel drive at $37,500-$39,800: they pair the full 318-mile range and the same 20-minute fast charging with the lineup's lowest prices.

Shoppers who need all-weather traction give up a little range for the dual-motor models, while the Limited trims at $45,075-$48,975 add the luxury features.

At these new prices, the Ioniq 5 undercuts most comparable electric crossovers while still offering charging speeds many of them cannot match.
